r/VIDEOENGINEERING on Reddit: Sending live video feed over long distances for live stream
Hi everyone! Im looking to help my local sporting club set up a live stream service for when they host some big-ish events. There is however one key… If you only need a feed for a few hours, or can take it for a short period and then redial later (and can get an internet connection), you could try a cheapish waterproof (!) Android phone or tablet, set up to auto answer on Skype. Then dial it up.Thank you very much for the response! I believe the club has been thinking about trying this for a couple of years however, the key problem that we would always come back was the lack of network, and the lack of ability to get a camera feed from one spot to another, and would just give up.Sometimes it makes sense to think of projects as having more than one piece. For example here you could look at it as establishing proper internet access throughout the activity site as one goal. In the second goal being to send the camera feed across the the Network. How long does the event run? Does the feed need to be active and live the whole time? You'll have to think about how long a tank of gas lasts on a given generator and or how long a certain battery would last at whatever consumption rate the electronics you choose.
